The Light and The Dense: Paul Mauriat and Chinese Classicals

This concert explores the contrast between the light music of French musician Paul Mauriat and selected passages of Chinese composer Bao Yuankai's Chinese Sights and Sounds celebrating the lightness of French music and the heaviness of Chinese classics.

Paul Mauriat was a famous light musician in the 20th century. Every note in his music is permeated with a romantic sentiment unique to the French nation. His music is gorgeous but not glitzy, romantic but not frivolous, rough yet delicate, and tranquil in the midst of passion. The Asian Chamber Orchestra has chosen Mauriat's fresh, clear, and unpretentious repertoire, in the hope of bringing the poetry of life to people through music and demonstrating the lightness of music.

Bao Yuankai's work Chinese Sights and Sounds is an artistic classic of Han Chinese folk songs with Western orchestral music. The work takes the popular Chinese folk melody and interprets a vivid picture of the life of the Han people through colourful orchestral timbre. The Asian Chamber Orchestra will lead the audience on a journey through a symphonic landscape formed by the orchestra, encountering the richness of the Orient.
