Conducting Masterclass by Julien Masmondet

Following three successful seasons at the Orchestre de Paris from 2011 to 2014 as assistant conductor to Paavo Järvi, Julien has frequently appeared as guest conductor with major orchestras worldwide, establishing himself as one of the most influential French conductors of his generation. He is currently a conducting professor at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris “Alfred Cortot” and has garnered critical acclaim for the innovative concerts and operas performed by the ensemble he founded, “Les Apaches ! .

In this masterclass, Julien will put the spotlight on two emblematic masterpieces of French music: Ma mère l'Oye (Mother Goose Suite) by Maurice Ravel, and Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune by Claude Debussy. Through these two works, he will illustrate and demonstrate the specificities of the French school of orchestral conducting with the tradition inherited from great French conductors and pedagogues such as Alfred Cortot, Charles Munch, Jean Fournet or Pierre Dervaux.
