Huang Rui: Sea of Silver Sand
Huang Rui’s Sea of Silver Sand series originated from his 2000 visit to the Zen gardens of Kyoto, particularly the Silver Pavilion. These experiences infused his spiritual universe with nature’s essence, reflected in the series that began in 2019 and has since evolved. Departing from strict abstract forms, the paintings now embrace a freer expression mirroring his spiritual world. The hues of blue represent the elements surrounding the Sea of Silver Sand, while the brushstrokes reflect Huang Rui’s emotional and spiritual state. After co-founding the Stars group in Beijing in 1979, Huang Rui spent two decades in Japan, where he explored art as a path to transcendence. This ongoing series continues to embody his artistic legacy and spiritual journey.
