Jazz Female Duo

From Paris, with love – an unparalleled Hong Kong-France female duo that tugs at the heartstrings on the piano, and bewitch the audience with mesmerising jazz music for the soul. Local accomplished jazz pianist Joyce Cheung meets celebrated French singer-pianist Sarah Lancman for a Paris Rendezvous, which marks the first-ever collaboration between the two phenomenal pianists, and Lancman’s first major concert in Hong Kong.  

Seize the occasion to see them go head-to-head on stage, marvel at their piano prowess, and soak up the beautiful melodies of love and friendship. Accompanied by Joyce Cheung Trio, they will bring the audience to their feet with the many rearranged jazz standards and French hits.

Joyce Cheung  

Jazz Pianist, Performer, Arranger, Composer 

Joyce Cheung is an accomplished jazz pianist, performer, arranger and composer based in Hong Kong. Joyce maintains an active presence in Hong Kong’s jazz and pop music scene, and has had the pleasure of sharing her music with live audiences across the world. 

A veteran in the Jazz scene, Joyce has showcased her talents in various notable performances. She headlined the Hong Kong Freespace Jazz Festival from 2022, where she made Latin arrangements of popular tunes and performed with a 11-piece band. Additionally, she was invited to share the stage with the acclaimed British soul jazz vocalist Poppy Ajudha in Tokyo Blue Note.

Throughout her career, Joyce has released two albums under Ginger Muse, titled Set Loose and Jazzical Collection. Her highly anticipated upcoming album, The Études was launched in March 2024 and has garnered a positive reception from listeners worldwide. In July 2024, Joyce held her critically acclaimed solo concert Once in a Blue Moon, in which Joyce and her 13-member played rearranged selections from the The Études, and collaborated with Hong Kong pop artists Janice Vidal, Yoyo Sham, Cloud Wan and Terence Lam, to present numerous popular and classical hits that brought the audience to their feet.


Sarah Lancman 

Singer, Pianist, Composer

Born in 1989, Sarah Lancman is a French singer, pianist, and composer born and living in Paris. At the age of seven, she began studying classical piano at the Conservatoire du Centre in Paris. Many years later, while completing her Bachelor's degree in composition, jazz piano, and vocals at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU), she also won the First Prize in the international Shure Jazz Voice Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland) presided over that year by Quincy Jones in 2012.

Sarah has toured internationally several times: Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, as well as in Turkey, Switzerland, Spain, Ukraine, and Slovenia. In 2016, she was invited by the Jazz Foundation of America to perform in New York as one of the three ‘Rising Stars’. For five years, she collaborated with the Jazz Eleven label as an artist and co-founder with Giovanni Mirabassi until 2021, then decided to create her new production structure, Lancman Productions, in April 2023.

Her sixth album, released on May 26, 2023, titled The Power of Words (Unlimited Music France), is imbued with majestic tenderness in which she reconnects with her love for the piano. She plays and sings on original compositions inspired by the universe of Michel Legrand, Charles Aznavour, thus blending her love for Jazz & Chanson surrounded by the prestigious Quatuor Hanson.


Jeff Lehmburg  

Bass 

Jeff Lehmberg is a bass player in the Hong Kong Philharmonic, having lived in Hong Kong since 2005. Besides his classical work, Jeff is also a free-lance jazz bassist, and plays regularly with several groups around Hong Kong. 

Jeff was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, and grew up in the state of Kansas. He received his bachelor's degree in philosophy at Columbia University in New York while also studying bass at the Juilliard School.  After teaching public school in Los Angeles as a member of Teach for America, he returned to New York to study double bass performance at Mannes College of Music. 


Dean Li 

Drum

Dean Li is a Hong Kong professional drummer. In recent years, he had been working in the local music scene with renowned artists including Ted Lo, Patrick Lui, Alan Kwan, Joyce Cheung, Teriver Cheung, Bowen Li, Ng Cheuk-yin, Tsui Chin-hung, Daniel Chu, etc. Also, he worked with different arts groups including Zuni Icosahedron, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Wuji Ensemble, Windmill Grass Theatre etc. He also worked with local pop artists including per se, Serrini, C AllStar, Terence Lam, Alfred Hui, Yoyo Sham, Moon Tang, Lai Ying, Ashley Lin, Walter Kwan, etc.


Sean Lai  

Violin

Lai holds degrees from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. Under the tutelage of Miss Ho Hung Ying from Hong Kong and Miss Natalia Prishepenko from Germany. 

Lai has been an active chambermusician, as the first violinist inthe Zephyrus String Quartetformed in Hong Kong, Lai and histeam were invited to perform inthe open stage of the Hong KongChamber Festival, “Academy New Generation Artists Concert”, and “Academy Dance: Opus 16: Point of Departure”, all ended with good comments. 

Lai also have equal interest in being an orchestral player and baroque music player. Lai has participated the NJO as the associated concert master in 2012 and played concerts in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Dan Hague and Belgium with the orchestra. Lai performed regularly with Die Konzertisten and various opera companies in Hong Kong. Lai has participated various baroque master classes and lessons from Monica Hugget, Nadja Zwiener, New Dutch Academy, Academy of Ancient Music and The English Concert. 


Vivian Shen 

Violin

Born in Taipei, Vivian Shen graduated with First Class Honours in both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with full scholarships, under Prof Michael Ma. Currently teaching at the HKAPA Junior Music Programme and The University of Hong Kong, Vivian is also a freelancer in The Hong Kong Philharmonic. 


Tiffany Cheng 

Viola

Tiffany began learning the viola and violin at a young age and received professional training in the String Division of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) under Mr. Ray Tsoi. She later earned her Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance at the Royal College of Music (RCM), London, studying with Nathan Braude and Yuri Zhislin. During her time in London, Tiffany worked closely with the RCM Symphony Orchestra, serving as principal violist for several concerts. She feels fortunate to have performed under renowned conductors such as Rafael Payare, Antonio Pappano, Vasily Petrenko, and Vladimir Jurowski, in prestigious venues like Queen Elizabeth Hall and Hall One.

In addition to orchestral work, Tiffany enjoys performing in smaller ensembles. She has participated in masterclasses with esteemed musicians such as Jennifer Stum and Maxim Rysanov, and was actively involved in chamber music, performing regularly in concerts at RCM. Past projects include performing with her quartet in the East Parry Room and participating in the RCM Chamber Festival.

Tiffany collaborates closely with schools as both an instrumental teacher and conductor, dedicated to fostering music development. She believes in music’s ability to empower the younger generation, enabling children to explore their imaginations, express emotions boldly, and grow into confident adults who reach their full potential.


Bernard Chan 

Cello

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Bernard graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree,  from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) and finished the Master of Arts degree with distinction at the Royal Academy of Music. 

Bernard is active both in orchestral and chamber music. He is now a guest tutti cellist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Bernard is also a member of the Cellistra.  

During his studies at the HKAPA, Bernard is the recipient of multiple scholarships, including the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Award, the Breguet Trey Lee Performing Arts Scholarship for two consecutive years, and etc. He is now a faculty member of the HKAPA Junior Music School. 
 

Bernard is also a singer-songwriter and backing vocalists. His published original 《在一起就好》recently went up on local 903 radio chart as Rank No.2.  He has been collaborating with various local pop artists. He has toured with Hins Cheung, and has performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He is also the main vocal of local professional A cappella group - V Sing.  

In 2021, Bernard has held his first personal concert - About Time. The project is co-presented with Music Lab and funded by the Hong Kong Artists Development Council.
